Alia Hamdan is the third artist from Beirut spending three months in Cologne as part of the residency program Art & Archives. She is going to present her current project and the first results of her research.
The filmic project of the Lebanese artist Alia Hamdan aims at connecting archives of Cologne and Beirut from the perspective of an autobiographical fiction. One aspect of her research involves gestures and spaces found in the archives of both cities. Another aspect consists in designing a fictional narrative that would bring these gestures and spaces into collision by becoming part of a performative autobiography. Since April 2015 Alia Hamdan is researching at the archive of the NS-Documentation Center and therefore focuses on archival material from Cologne during the Nazi era.
The event will be held in German and English.
