Marta Pujades (*1990, Palma de Mallorca) is an artist who habitually has recourse to the image in its photographic form, with a portrait base, as a medium for exploring the identity and roles that human beings take on socially. She currently holds a scholarship by “Michael Horbach Stiftung” Cologne, where she is also in residence until early September 2016.

Madhusree Dutta – Academy of the Arts of the World


The Academy of the Arts of the World welcomes Madhusree Dutta who is a filmmaker, curator and pedagogue born 1959 in India. She is the founder and executive director of Majlis, a centre for rights discourse and multi-disciplinary art initiatives in Mumbai, where she currently lives. Madhusree Dutta will be a fellow at the Academy of the Arts of the Worls from mid August – November 20, 2016.

3 137 (Athens) – Büro für Brauchbarkeit


In the context of its 2016 and 2017 summer residency, the Cologne-based “Büro für Brauchbarkeit” is conducting an artist/curator exchange with the Athens-based off-space “3 137”. From mid August – mid September the Büro für Brauchbarkeit welcomes Kosmas Nikolaou from Athens, while in 2017 members of Büro für Brauchbarkeit will visit 3 137 in Greece.

“Sympathy for the other?” – ifs


“Sympathy for the other?” is an interdisciplinary documentary film project organized by ifs (internationale filmschule köln) and Beit Berl College (BBC), Israel. The topic is “notions of identity in multicultural societies in Israel and Germany”. From mid August until mid September four BBC students will come to North Rhine-Westfalia, while selected ifs students will realize projects in Israel.

Maha Maamoun – Academy of the Arts of the World


Maha Maamoun is a Cairo-based artist. Her work has been shown in international exhibitions and biennials. She is a founding board member of the Contemporary Image Collective (CiC) in Cairo. Maha Maamoun will be a fellow of the Academy of the Arts of the World from June to mid August 2016.

Call for entries – residencies at PACT Zollverein 01/2017


From January to mid July 2017 PACT Zollverein offers residencies for the development and realisation of projects and productions, which are open to professional artists from both Germany and abroad working in the fields of dance, performance, media art or sound art. Lisa Rave – KHM


Lisa Rave has been appointed a fellow at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne in the department of experimental film from April until September 2016. Lisa studied photography at Bard College, New York and film at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Heinz Emigholz and at the European Film College in Denmark.


Felipe Castelblanco – CAT Cologne


During the months of May and June interdisciplinary artist Felipe Castelblanco (*1985, Bogotá) will be in residence at CAT Cologne. For his project “Re-Tratos” Filipe will explore the city of Cologne in search for the intermediate spaces between private and public, memory and present, fiction and reality. In doing so the urban architecture becomes a mirror surface just as the residents and passers-by that move through it.


Srećko Horvat – Academy of the Arts of the World

Celia + Yunior – new talents


The work of Celia + Junior examines the political, administrative and economic scenes in different cities by using information found in the place and establishing unexpected connections. Direct contact with specialists in the fields they are interested to work in is key to develop our process. Celia + Junior ask for opinions and find the complexities and variations of each place; mainly interested in the relationship established between individuals and different administration mechanisms.


Youssef Ouchra – new talents


Born in Casablanca in 1984, Youssef Ouchra has lived and worked in this city since his studies in broadcast media and computer graphics. His creative process takes various forms: graphic creations, installations, sound creations, and realisations of video art, which have earned him several prizes. »»

“new talents – biennale cologne” joins the fellow network

The fifth edition of the “new talents – biennale cologne” is characterized by international exchange. Right from the start it was a special concern to establish a network across borders. The first edition of new talents already featured artists from abroad among the participants. Additional invitations for further international artists were issued in the following years. In 2015, id.newtalents, the international day of new talents, was initiated, which takes place on May 21st each year and offers institutions the chance to present an up and coming artist (


Fred Khumalo – Academy of the Arts of the World


Fred Khumalo is a renowned South African columnist and author of the novel Bitches’ Brew (Jacana Media, 2006), for which he was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature in 2006. Khumalo is a fellow of the Academy of the Arts of the World.


Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo – new talents

Soukaina Joual – new talents

Soukaina-JoualSoukaina Joual lives and works in Fes, Morocco. In her works she grapples with meat as medium and material, both in objects as well as in performances. In addition to the organic material and its colour, Soukaina is working with offal and a fascination for abattoirs.
